With a nice square Suction Vise table such as this 40 cm by 40cm Hole Grid style vacuum table, many things can be accomplished. Metals and plastics or most any material that is flat and smooth can be machined on this table. This type table uses a vacuum mat where its purpose is to help secure a closed vacuum like a seal between the vacuum table top and the material being machined. The better the seal, the stronger the hold. Also with a good seal you are still able to cut materials while leaving new vacuum holes uncovered during machining and still have enough holding force to continue machining your materials. With experience and paying attention to the vacuum gauge, the operator is able to identify when it’s safe to allow more holes to be exposed and when it is not safe to continue. This is not an exact science as size of the finished part, shape, thickness, tooling being used and amount of force being applied all play a part.
